Meet the team
Richard Mulholland - Operations Coordinator
As the Farm Operations Coordinator, Richard spends his days working with the volunteers, organising farm activities and arguing with the geraniums. In a previous life Richard was the farm’s gardener meaning that if something had grown in the garden, Richard probably had something to do with it. When he’s not strutting around in wellies Richard loves to travel, discover new cheeses and create new ideas to make in the wood workshop. One day he hopes to travel to Wrangle Island to commune with the woolly mammoths.
What's your favourite motto or quote? "to travel is to live – I wouldn’t be without it."
What did you want to be when you were younger? "A lollipop lady."
Amanda Toomer - Livestock Manager
Amanda oversees livestock and poultry care, breeding, hatching eggs, gardening and occasionally dabbling in woodwork. Amanda used to be a retail manager, but was frustrated by too many hours spent inside so took an opportunity to do something different and ended up at the farm. It was a natural transition; Amanda studied Environmental Science at Southampton University and Several Animal and Livestock courses at Sparsholt College. When not at the farm Amanda is busy as an Explorer Scout Leader, currently helping with 3 different units: a local Southampton group, Hampshire Air Explorers, and a group planning to go to Tanzania. Also as a Duke of Edinburgh Expedition Assessor, weekends can be spent hanging around boggy areas of the New Forest waiting for teenagers to trudge past. Fun time with family involves keeping English traditions alive with Morris dancing, wassailing and mumming.
What's your favourite motto or quote? "Tell me; I’ll forget, show me; I’ll remember, involve me; I’ll understand"
What did you want to be when you were younger? "A stunt woman."
Sara Forcer - Small Animal Manager
Sara can be found hanging out with the hedgehog, degus and bearded dragons, along with various other spiky, scaly and furry individuals. She studied animal care at Southampton and Sparsholt college and followed this with an animal psychology course. She is the farm's craft queen, merchandise maker, social media specialist and farm photo snapper. Sara loves all animals especially tapirs (sadly the farm doesn’t have the budget to keep these as well as all of the other farm animals). Outside of work she loves holidaying in wales, trips to the flicks, gigs and festivals, taking photos, reading fiction books and muddy walks with the dogs.
What's your favourite motto or quote? "You're gonna need a bigger boat."
What did you want to be when you were younger? "A zoo keeper."
Rachel Thomson - Educational Coordinator
As the Educational Coordinator Rachel gets involved with all school, family and youth work at the farm; if you can hear children laughing or see them covered in flour, Rachel is usually not far behind. Her many other talents include being a musician, photographer, artist, cookery enthusiast and vintage antique lover. When Rachel's not at work she loves visiting antique fayres, watching a good murder mystery on TV, spending time out in the New Forest or on the coast walking with her family. You may occasionally spot her in a coffee house!
What's your favourite motto or quote? "Be kind, always have a smile for others and laughter is a great form of therapy!"
What did you want to be when you were younger? "A farm cook."
